As your on-ramp to the theatre arts, the Overture program offers a rare, behind-the-scenes exploration of a working theatre, historical context of opera with literature, social studies, foreign languages, and vocational pathways in the performing arts.

The Overture program is a membership based program for middle, high school and college student groups. $150 group membership fee.

Membership Includes:

  • Production Study Guide
  • Pre or post rehearsal discussion by professional Teaching Artist(s)
  • 15 seats at one Kentucky Opera Rehearsal (1 adult chaperone is required to attend as part of 15 seat membership)
  • A conversation with a professional theatre or performing artists

About the Rehearsals:

  • Kentucky Opera Chorus rehearsal – Observe the professional Kentucky Opera Chorus as they prepare for the main stage productions. Rehearsals are led by Kentucky Opera Chorus Master Lisa Hasson.
  • Sitzprobe – Sit in on the very first rehearsal with the cast and the orchestra. This time is devoted to music led by the Maestro, so it will not include costumes, scenery, or props.
  • Piano Tech Rehearsal – Watch as the cast works through the production for the first time out of the rehearsal hall and on the stage. A great chance to see all the technical elements (lights, props, scenery changes) as they are fine-tuned. Singers may not sing with full voice.
  • Final Dress Rehearsal – Experience the final rehearsal with the cast and orchestra as all production elements come together to prepare for the performances. While the opera is almost polished, this is the last opportunity to prepare for opening night. There may be stops, and the singers may choose to “save” their voices for the upcoming performances.

As an overture member, you may choose from one of the following rehearsals for your group visit:
