Explore the excitement of singing and the thrill of theatre with Kentucky Opera’s Youth Opera Project. Learn from professionals in a nurturing and engaging environment as you prepare to represent Kentucky Opera as one of its performing company members. This program is intended for ages 8-18. All skill levels are welcome; no experience necessary!

Our faculty leads regular Monday rehearsals from 5-7pm at the Kentucky Opera Center for Cultural Health. These rehearsals are a mixture of vocal technique and warm-up, music rehearsal, acting work, and staging work. Additional rehearsal is scheduled as needed to prepare for performances. No audition is needed to enter the program. Auditions may be held throughout the season for small ensemble parts or solos.

No experience is needed to join Youth Opera Project. Come ready to learn and grow and make friends!

YOP is for students ages 8-18.

The price of the program is $1,000 per child for the year long program, including the intensive camp leading up to The Child and the Spells, and may be paid in installments according to an arranged payment plan over the course of the program. A sliding scale based on demonstrated need will be instituted for the 26-27 season—please email youthprograms@kyopera.org for more information. Payments may be made online at kyopera.org or via cash or check.

Rehearsals take place at the Kentucky Opera Center for Cultural Health at 708 Magazine St. Generally, rehearsals are held on Monday evenings after school. Additional rehearsals may be scheduled ahead of specific performances.
