Peel back three decades of misguided love, secrets, resentments and unacknowledged family truths in this intimate one-act chamber opera by Jake Heggie, (DEAD MAN WALKING, MOBY DICK),  starring world-renowned mezzo-soprano DENYCE GRAVES.

We peek in on Madeline, the Broadway star, and her two grown children over three Christmases and discover them wrapped ever tighter in conflict and affection. An opera of a family facing success and failure. THREE DECEMBERS is a beautifully poignant and heart-wrenching work. Full Synopsis

Three Decembers may be closer in letter and spirit to musical comedy than it is to opera, but what of that? It’s sharp and witty and poignant, and it gave Chicago Opera Theater an engaging crowd-pleaser with which to wrap up its spring season… —  CHICAGO TRIBUNE, John von Rhein (May 10, 2010)

Sung in English with English supertitles. Performed in one act with three scenes.
Based on the original work by Terrence McNally titled  Some Christmas Letters. Performance timing approx. 90 minutes.
