On July 19, 2017, Kentucky Opera facilitated “A Day at the Opera,” a summer camp program in partnership with the Louisville Youth Choir. The day long, pilot program offered a space in which to develop and evaluate logistics for further program development. Hosted at The Brown Theatre and ArtSpace, participants of the Louisville Youth Choir summer camp, ages seven – fourteen, participated in a full day of behinds the scenes learning at no cost. Students toured the newly renovated Kentucky Opera Costume Shop and explore costume prop production and design. While on the stage of the Brown Theatre, students discussed lighting, audio and the technical aspects with the Brown Theatre House crew. The students were engaged in a stage directing session, working on repertoire they will sing in their final choir performance. The day concluded with a performance by and discussion with a Kentucky Opera Apprentice Artist (and University of Louisville student).
