Kentucky Opera Launches Grand Opera Tour

Screen Shot 2014-09-30 at 10.16.36 AMKentucky Opera is thrilled to embark on a regional tour of Guiseppe Verdi’s LA TRAVIATA! This grand opera was originally found to be full of questionable themes, and one critic even described the characters as, “foul, hideous, and immoral.” Despite the early reviews, the American public embraced the story as one of the greatest romances in opera, and it continues to be one of the repertory’s favorite operas!

Join us as we enter the world of Violetta, a popular courtesan, as she falls in love with the naive, young Alfredo and struggles to protect him from the tarnish of her past. Will the lovers overcome their differences, or will they be parted forever by fate? Verdi’s depiction of their journey together is one of the most beloved expressions of passion in music.

Kentucky Opera is dedicated to cultivating professional singers through our Studio Artist program. The program provides opportunities for young professional singers to extend their education and training through mainstage and comprimario roles, as well as access to professional conductors, directors, and coaches. Our Resident Artists also perform for educational and outreach events throughout the community.

Performers for our regional tour of LA TRAVIATA include eight Studio Artists in residency with Kentucky Opera from September 29 through Mid-October. Partnering with regional companies, performances will be with the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra, Saturday October 11th at 7:30 pm; the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra, Saturday, October 18th at 7:30 pm; and Hanover College, Wednesday, October 22nd at 7:30 pm.
