Calling all young opera lovers! Kentucky Opera’s Young Professional Opera Patrons is looking for new members to join us in a unique theatre experience. Enjoy unparalleled access to backstage action, behind-the-scenes events, and opera stars when you join our family of fun young professionals with a passion for opera and theatre.

YPOP was first conceived by Kentucky Opera board members as a way to allow the younger generation to have a fun experience with opera. For several years it was just a loosely structured group that threw occasional parties and enjoyed attending Kentucky Opera together. In 2015 current opera leadership formalized the organization and began hosting regular cocktail parties and other YPOP events including happy hours at 8UP.

ypop-art-fairIn 2015 we were pleased to welcome 50 members into YPOP, and in 2016 we were able to develop a leadership board. Now we’re on a mission to expand our membership and take YPOP to the next level.

“I became involved with YPOP because it was an accessible way to become involved with Kentucky Opera,” says YPOP President Wes Fischer. “It’s been a great way to meet other opera enthusiasts, and to get access to performance-related events like our backstage experiences and our happy hour parties with the stars of Kentucky Opera.”

President-elect Courtney Glenny agrees. “My favorite things to do with YPOP would definitely be our happy hours and VIP events,” she says. “We have tons of fun, and these activities also involve meeting artists and learning more about the arts and culture scene in Louisville.”

Wes and Courtney are referring to exclusive events available only to YPOP members like happy hours with world-class artists, behind-the-scenes rehearsal experiences with Kentucky Opera experts, and networking opportunities with the Kentucky Opera Board of Directors, Patrons’ Circle, and Honorary Council. YPOP members also have opportunities to represent Kentucky Opera as ambassadors to the community. Kentucky Opera could not be represented in so many incredibleypop-derby ways without YPOP members.

“I’d love to see the organization and its leadership grow,” says Wes. “There’s really no better way to experience Kentucky Opera than with the activities, benefits, and fellow members of the group. Plus we get great benefits like ticket discounts and social time with the artists.”

“Please get involved,” says Courtney. “Kentucky Opera and YPOP are both wonderful organizations, and it’s such a good excuse to get dressed up and go out for a proper night on the town with some world-class entertainment. Join today!”
