Kentucky Opera is excited to welcome Margareth Miguel to our SHOW BOAT chorus! Margareth began singing with us back in 2010, and SHOW BOAT will be her fifth Kentucky Opera appearance. When she’s not singing with Kentucky Opera, Margareth teaches voice lessons and is a professional choir conductor.
“I began performing at a young age,” says Margareth. “Growing up in Brazil, I sang in church choir and grew up in a family of musicians. My father was a band conductor who played saxophone. This musical atmosphere in my home really gave me the incentive to study music, and to choose music as my career.” Margareth came to America in 2008 and received her master’s degree in Voice Performance in May 2012.
“Kentucky Opera has allowed me to gain valuable experience with each production. I’ve benefitted from the professional, positive attitude of everyone involved with Kentucky Opera,” says Margareth. She loves the connection she feels with the conductors, directors, and fellow performers she’s worked with at Kentucky Opera. “It’s probably my favorite part of the rehearsal process,” Margareth says, “the connection to the music scene is so important.”
Once SHOW BOAT closes, Margareth will be performing in several concerts of “Pearls of Brazil,” around the country. “These concerts have a repertoire of Brazilian songs, including works from composers of the Baroque to Contemporaneous periods. March 2016, I’ll return to Brazil for one more concert and a master class in Sao Paulo City.”
