2019-2020 Chorus Auditions
Kentucky Opera will hold chorus auditions for its 2019-2020 season on Saturday, March 23, 2019
Kentucky Opera will hold auditions for choristers on March 23, 2019 in the 2nd floor rehearsal hall in the ArtSpace building in Downtown Louisville (323 West Broadway, Louisville, KY 40202).
These auditions are for consideration for chorus roles in Kentucky Opera’s Brown-Forman 2019/20 season production of Bizet’s Carmen (performances September 20 & 22, 2019) and Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro (performances February 14 & 16, 2020). All chorus members must be at least 18 years of age and have transportation to and from rehearsal hall and theatre.
Singers are to prepare 2 pieces, one in English and one in either French and Italian. Classical, musical theater, religious songs, art songs, and arias are all acceptable. An accompanist will be provided. All current chorus members will not need to audition again unless they would like to perform small roles or wish to be added to other community engagement programs throughout the season. All other previous chorus members must audition again.
Rehearsal dates and times vary. Chorus rehearsals customarily start at 7:00 PM on weeknights and as early as 10:00 AM on weekends. Rehearsals for Carmen begins in August 2019 and rehearsals for The Marriage of Figaro begins in January 2020. Production tech week rehearsals start at 7:00 PM time but make-up and costume calls can be as early as 5:30 PM. A preliminary rehearsal schedule will be available upon acceptance into the chorus roster.
First-year chorus members will be compensated at an hourly rate of $9.00 & $90.00 per performance. Returning chorus members will be compensated at an hourly rate of $9.50 & $100.00 per performance. The chorus is paid in full at the final performance.
